Panasoca slumps in Central Sub-middle league

The Volta Regional div 2 Sub-Middle League which began yesterday, 22nd September 2017, saw Pan Africa losing its first match 1-2 to rivals Area 51 Fc at the Ho Sports Stadium.

The two sides who have played 4 draws from pre-season had themselves separated with a controversial winner in the second half.

The game started with Area 51 dominating possession with some neat exchanges but struggled to penetrate the defensive setup of Pan Africa SA. Against the round of play, Pan Africa SA took the lead through a quick counter with Robert Ashie finishing the attack, lobbing the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper of Area 51 into a gapping net. The goal turned the game around as Pan Africa began to enjoy some share of possession.

Playmaker of area 51, Nasiru Ghani remain a persistent threat to Pan Africa, going close to finding the equalizer on two occasions, with some long shot from outside the penalty box. Area 51 finally got the equalizer, thanks to a goalkeeping blunder from Andrews Quaye who failed to make a first time grab of a long free kick into the box, fluffing the ball into his own net.

The second half began with much more intensity with some hard tackles flying from both sides. Area 51 got the better of the two teams as they took the lead halfway through the second half in a goal line fray, with Pan Africa players protesting goal for an infringement.

Robert Ashie referred to as “Aguero”, had the chance to pull even, but his shot went straight at the goalkeeper of Area 51 after a carefully lifted cross by right back, Wabolo Ibrahim. The game eventually ended 2-1 in favor of Area 51 after 5 minutes added time.

At the blast of the final whistle, players and officials of both sides charged at each other in a rather physical brawl with goalkeeper of Pan Africa needing a medical attention after been injured in the scuffle. The timely intervention of security personnel’s restored calm as fans were prevented from entering the inner perimeter.

Head coach of Area 51, Foster Kudiabor known in football circles as oxygen in a post-match interview said the game was a very tough one for his side as players of pan Africa were more experienced and matured than his boys.

His opposite number, Asamoah Dzifa however was lost of words as he felt cheated. He however believes, they will bounce back better and stronger but wouldn’t want to comment on the incident.

The second game from the zone, also saw Home Stars defeating Peki Tsame Young Stars 2-1, as the latter took the lead in the 9’.

Panasoca will play their second match against Tsame Young Stars at 3pm, while Homestars lock horns with Area 51 at 1pm, all on Saturday, September 23, 2017 still at the Ho Sports Stadium.

A winner from each of the 4 zones (Southern A& B and Northern) currently playing the Sub middle league will go through another round robin to determine the sole slot to represent the region at the GNB National division 1 league next season.
